Rumors escalated since February 28th, such as member Chaewon dating the manager, Naeun alleged rape comments, and Hyunjoo being severely depressed. The company released two statements in the same day to further clarify the situation.
In the first statement, released around 16 hours ago, DSP Media explained why Hyunjoo joined the girlgroup even though she joined the agency as an actor. “Hyunjoo didn’t participate faithfully in the team”, they continued. “Everyone was going through rough times, and based on the circumstances at the time, it was clear that no one could be considered a perpetrator or victim.”
Fans were mad as this statement threw the blame on the ex-member. Then, DSP Media decided to post a second statement explaining all the situations that had come to light.
About Chaewon and Somin’s relationship, “They shared three years together as trainees in our company, the members were already close”. Also, there wasn’t a manager dating Chaewon, “It’s true that there was a female manager with whom the girls spent the whole day, but she never showed favoritism for any member in special.”
Regarding the rumored Naeun stealing shoes comment, “The company presented 12 pairs of two identical shoes to the members. Of these, four members were of the same size. It was an incident that just happened because of that”. Naeun also apologized right away about the dwenjang stew incident and ex-member Hyunjoo ate the stew with them.
Former staff has also posted about the matter, even before the agency released a statement. About the ‘suicide attempt’, “It probably was the time that Hyunjoo ran away at night, sent a text to her parents and was out of touch for a few hours. Yet when we found her, there weren’t any signs of self-harm.”
Furthermore, DSP Media says the alleged rape comments chats are fake and that member Naeun has never made such comment.
