Dramaworld is a fantasy romance drama about a K-drama fan transmigrated into the world of a K-drama. Its 1st season was released though Netflix Korea in 2016 and had a webseries-like format, with 20-minute long episodes. Due to its success, the drama was renewed for a 2nd season by Lifetime.
Yesterday April 2nd, the drama’s team celebrated an online showcase. Actors Ha Jiwon, Henry, Sean Richard, Bae Nuri, Jeong Mansik, and Kim Sahee participated in the event, while director Chris Martin and female lead Liv Hewson participated through video.
After almost a year since the filming, the cast shared their various experiences
Chris Martin said “I have been dreaming of directing Korean dramas since I was 23 years old, and I really like Korean dramas and movies. That’s why I made a Korean drama as the background of Dramaworld.“ The director anticipated that in this new season, you’ll be able to see more of other characters’ stories.
Actor and producer Sean Richards was glad that the webseries productions increased. “After 5 years (since the first season) we’re able to reach a wider audience and to produce longer episodes.”
“The energy of the production team and cast was good and the filming site was fun,” said Ha Jiwon. “Dramaworld contains all the reasons for loving K-dramas. Not only foreign fans but also Korean fans will like it. I too, often imagine wanting to enter the world in a drama, although I can be somewhat satisfied as an actress.”
Moreover, Ha Jiwon is a very well-known actress. Media asked about her favorites K-Clichés, to which she answered,. “In Secret Garden, there was a love story between a chaebol and a poor woman. Albeit not in Secret Garden, I also like mysterious origins and kimchi fights.”
Henry, who has been working hard on the both American and Chinese entertainment industries, comes back to Korea. The singer said that he really wanted to take up Korean acting gigs, because although he has never learn acting professionally he enjoys the process very much.
As part of Henry’s character family, actress Nuri Bae praised him. “He’s sensible and humorous. Henry’s main image is as a singer, so I was a little worried in terms of acting. But it turned out he learns really quick”. Henry confessed that Nuri Bae helped him a lot with his script, for which he’s very grateful.
This is not a parody to K-dramas…
The season’s villain, Kim Sahee, anticipated an intense performance. “Please expect a villain who has neither blood nor tears.” Despite the jokes, she continued, “This is not a parody to K-dramas, rather like an homage.”
In addition, the renowed Jung Mansik said, “Both in the past and now, I score my performance with 40 points. As an actor, that’s all you need. There is no actor acting to get a perfect score. The remaining 60 points can be filled by other actors and production crew. Doing your best and being humble is the most satisfactory thing. ”
Female lead’s actress Liv Hewson also said, “I really liked Claire’s passion,” and said, “Through Season 2, I meet new actors, and various cultures coexisted in Korea-US joint drama. I was fortunate to participate in this project. I had a really fantastic time.” she expressed her affection for the work.
Drama World will be broadcast through the Korean Lifetime Channel and online plataform TVING at 11:30 pm every Friday and Saturday. iQIYI will broadcast to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore meanwhile in Japan, platform U-NEXT acquired the copyright.
