A mama cat and her seven tiny kittens were found living under a fallen tree at a senior living facility in Indianapolis, and a rescue team reached them within fifteen minutes of the call. Now safe and warm in foster care, the whole family has been christened the Golden Years Gang, each one named after a grandparent.

Their rescue began with a call for help. Word came in about a mother cat and her seven little ones who had been getting by beneath a fallen tree at a senior living facility on the south side of Indianapolis. It was no place for a family of eight.
When a rescuer with Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership, a foster-based rescue in Indianapolis, arrived and surveyed the scene, there was no saying no. She got straight on the phone.
The response was immediate. "We couldn't say no to helping them, so we quickly made some calls, and within 15 minutes my husband and daughter arrived with old towels, Churus, and carriers," Lori White, the ARPO foster now caring for the family, shared with LoveMeow.

With old towels for warmth, Churu treats to coax the cats out, and carriers ready to go, the little team gathered up the whole family in one swift, careful effort.
Momma and all seven babies were carried away from the outdoors for good. It was the kind of day that leaves a rescuer grateful for the friends and family who show up without hesitation when a family of cats needs them most.

Once they were safe, the little family inspired a naming theme as charming as the rescue itself. Lori thought it over through the rest of the evening, and by the time she had washed the rescue dirt out of her hair, she had landed on a Golden Years Gang theme, a nod to the senior living facility where the family had been found. Each cat got a wonderfully old-fashioned name to match.
At the head of the family is Momma Mildred, Millie for short. Her seven kittens are five boys, Norman, Stanley, Bernard, Eugene, and Otis Henry, and two little girls, Dottie and Pearl Louise.

The kittens are only about two and a half to three weeks old, tiny and precious, and just beginning to explore the world from the safety of their foster home.
Telling all those little faces apart has become a happy challenge. "Five ginger boys with matching baby faces did not get the memo about making my job easier," Lori shared with us. Even so, a system has emerged: Stanley is the lone blondie, big Bernard is the largest and darkest of the brothers, and little Norman, the smallest, has the long fur that gives him away.

And Momma Millie is flourishing. After going without proper nutrition while living outdoors, she is eating with real gusto. "We have no doubt she is trying to make up for all the nutrients she wasn't getting while living outdoors," Lori shared.
She is pouring all of it back into her babies, and it shows in every content, well-fed kitten curled up against her. She is being a Mom, by every measure, in every part of the word.

Now that they are indoors, the whole family is enjoying the small comforts they went so long without. They are safe, they are warm, their bellies are full, and they are wrapped in the attention they missed for so long.
For a mama who worked so hard to keep her babies alive against the elements, it is an enormous relief. She can finally rest, knowing her family is in good hands.

Not long ago, Millie was raising seven kittens alone beneath a fallen tree, doing everything she could to keep them warm and fed. Now the whole Golden Years Gang is indoors, full-bellied and safe, with nothing left to do but grow up surrounded by love.
For a family that started with nothing but each other, it is the softest of landings, and the best of their story is still ahead.
