After the long wait, both hyped by the fandom and the media, the boyband lost the Best Duo Performance/Best Group Performance award to Rain on Me by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.
ARMY decided to call the awards SCAMMYs since they feel that the Recording Academy used their idol’s name just to boost up views for the event. The fans also claim that the real time viewers dropped from 1.2M to 500K as soon as the winner was announced.
On the other hand, many fans call this an act of racism. Furthermore, a host is under fire for mispronouncing Natalia Lafourcade’s name. Zayn Malik has spoken up after this, once again insisting that “We need to make sure we are honoring and celebrating “creative excellence” of ALL.”
