BTS is the first K-pop act to be nominated for a GRAMMY, and they have done so with their single ‘Dynamite’, which soon will compete against for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance . Although, this isn’t the first time the boyband visits the ceremony: in 2019, they presented the R&B award. The next year, they became the first K-pop group to perform in the GRAMMYS, and now, they’ve become the first korean group to get nominated at it. As they gear up for the ceremony, they open up to Ashlee Mitchell in an interview.
“We’re overwhelmed to be called representatives of Korea. We’re just thankful for the support and attention that we’ve received, not only from our fans but our peers. We will continue to work harder to showcase even better music and performances. ” said Jungkook, “A win would be significant not only for us but for many who pursue diversity in music.”
Suga continued, “We see movements in “diversity” in the global music industry. We hope these changes expedite and keep moving forward. There are so many artists in Korea besides us who put out great music. And I’m sure there are even more on a global scale.”
The boys talked about their latest release BE and Jimin mentioned how personal it is, “We felt the need to tell others that we share the same emotions and show them how we stay consistent in our daily lives that have changed so abruptly—because life goes on.” Not only that, but both J-Hope and RM supported him, as they said that they have been working in more music.
At the end, they recommended their 2018 album LOVE YOURSELF: 轉 TEAR. In specific, the track “Spring Day”. “it’s a great album that came out in very difficult times.” said the leader.
